Project: KATV Transmitter Building
Location: Little Rock, AR
Architect: Cromwell Architects & Engineers
Little Rock based KATV (Channel 7) is getting a new Transmitter Building. The 4,500sf structure consists of pre-cast concrete walls, a double "T" roof structure topped with two inch thick concrete pavers, and an exterior high performance thermal coating. Structurally, this reinforced building is designed to be storm resistant and provide protection against electromagnetic interference. We are installing electrical and mechanical systems that will later support a new transmitter tower. All mechanical equipment will be covered by a 3,200sf galvanized steel & chain link ice shield structure. A back-up generator and automatic transfer switch will ensure seamless operation during power outages.
This tower replaces a structure in Redfield which collapsed on January 11th, 2008. At that time, the Redfield tower was the 2nd-tallest structure in the world. With the addition of its digital antenna, KATV’s new tower now stands taller than the Empire State Building.
